What Is Amazon's Carnival Row TV Series About?

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne Dive Into a Mystical New World in Amazon's Carnival Row

If you've fallen in love with Amazon shows that have dark fairy tale elements to them, like Hanna and The Man in the High Castle, might we suggest keeping an eye out for the streaming platform's upcoming fantasy series, Carnival Row? The gritty new show from Legendary Television drops on Aug. 30, and stars Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom, who take centre stage in the show's brief first teaser, above.

The series is set in a Victorian-era fantasy world where both humans coexist with mythological creatures who were forced to immigrate after their homelands were invaded by men. As the population of supernatural beings expands and the fearful human government puts increasingly strict limits on the way they can live (and love), a human detective named Rycroft Philostrate (Bloom) risks it all by rekindling a dangerous love affair with faerie Vignette Stonemoss (Delevingne). But that's not the only thing that has their lives at risk — a serial killer is on the loose, and the perpetrator is a monstrous being that could forever destroy the tenuous peace that exists between humans and mythological creatures.

Once you've watched the intriguing trailer (which sees Delevingne's character stretching her wings — literally), make sure you check out all the other buzzy new shows premiering this Summer.
