Mad About Missoni: Getting to Know Fashion's Most Famous Family
It takes a lot, in these days of fast fashion, for a label to surpass the 60 year mark. To do so and still keep getting bigger and better is a remarkable feat, one that Missoni can comfortably add to its long list of achievements.
The Missoni family itself is as well-known for their close bond as they are for their signature zig-zag print — and talking to Angela Missoni, creative director, you can see the way the mention of both lights her up from the inside. The 56-year-old (who has the skin of a 30-year-old) is one of the most joyous people we've ever met and it's clear her blessed life is one she's entirely grateful for. Listening to her speak about her family and her work in her thick Italian accent is a real treat: she laughs often, shares her genuine feelings, charmingly, still to this day thinks of the Missoni label as a "very small, niche brand."
Off the back of the successful launch of the Missoni for Target collaboration last week, we sat down with Angela in her Sydney hotel room for a good old heart-to-heart. Keep reading for her wise words of wisdom on the fashion industry, her thoughts on her daughters' style, and who her personal style icons are.
POPSUGAR Australia: How did the Target collaboration come into being?
Angela: We were asked! After the experience we had with Target US we responded positively, thinking about doing it again. And Australia was the perfect country to do it! It would give me the possibility of working out of the office and I thought the Missoni homewares and decorations could be easily applied in another project.
