Mom Shares Anxiety About Balancing a Job With Family

Nervous About Starting a Family Because of Your Career? This Working Mum's Post Will Put You at Ease

Ann Marie Chrudimsky, a working mum and an executive at a technology company, recently opened up in a LinkedIn post about the anxiety she had when she was younger over starting a family. As a young professional, Ann Marie often wondered how she'd ever make having both a career and children work.

"All right. Truth time. I knew I wanted kids, but, in my mid to late 20s I started to get worried (freaking out honestly) about how it would impact my ability to move into field sales and my long term career goals," she wrote before giving a laundry list of her worries.

"Things like this would creep into my head:

What about travelling? You're in field!

What about sales events at night?

You don't have time NOW, how would this work?

You're alone here with no family around.

Will my husband be OK with watching our kids while I'm on work trips? My dad didn't do that...

How could this EVER work?

What happens when kids get sick?

OMG how am I going to balance this all?"

Despite Ann Marie's initial concerns — which are all totally valid! — she found that having both a career and children is doable, especially if you have a great support system at work.

"I'm here to tell you, that it is ABSOLUTELY possible to do it," Ann Marie wrote. "There is no 'secret,' but, having a strong work ethic, an employer and people (spouse/manager/team) who support you are absolutely critical. Some days and weeks are crazy, but, I wouldn't give it up and don't regret being a working mum. I'm able to be [a] better mum because of my professional career and I'm not stuttering or apologising for it."
